Google recently announced a new Safety Charter to help make India's AI-led transformation future more secure. At its “Safer with Google India Summit”, the company explained its plans to keep people, businesses, and governments safe while technology evolves with Artificial Intelligence (AI). This new charter focuses on keeping people safe from online fraud, strengthening cybersecurity for companies and the government, and developing and using AI in a responsible way.

Protecting People from Rising Cyberthreats

To help people avoid online fraud and cybercrime, Google’s Digikavach program has already supported over 177 million people in India. It uses the power of Artificial Intelligence to warn people about financial frauds and dangerous messages. For example, Google messages block more than 500 million scam texts every single month. The phone also shows over 2.5 billion suspicious link warnings to help people avoid phishing attacks. Furthermore, Google Pay has alerted more than 41 million transactions that were suspected to be frauds, saving nearly ₹13,000 crore in losses. Gmail, which is used by more than 2.5 billion people across the world, successfully blocks 99.9% of spam, phishing messages, and malware from entering inboxes.

Making Digital Spaces Safe and Trusted

Google is not just protecting people; it’s securing businesses and governments as well. The Google Cloud M-Trends Report highlights growing cyberthreats and guides companies on staying vigilant. Using Artificial Intelligence, Google is able to find weaknesses in popular software, sometimes even before cybercriminals find them. The collaboration with DeepMind’s Project Zero is a great example — it finds previously unknown bugs and fixes them promptly.

Future Plans to Support Security Innovation

To make sure this progress reaches everyone, Google is investing in education and collaboration. It has teamed up with The Asia Foundation to fund new cyber-clinics in 10 or more locations across India. Furthermore, in collaboration with IIT Madras, Google is developing post-quantum cryptography to enable a more secure future for all.
